What Surprised Visitors Most About Coorg

When visitors was going to Coorg, they expected nice coffee plantation, good weather and mountains. However, when travelers visited Coorg, they understood that the quiet little destination we only see through photos and travel pages have so much more to it. Visit the mesmerizing attractions of coorg in Coorg tour Packages.

Coorg took them by surprising in multiple ways; from its peaceful environment and secluded landscapes to hospitality experiences of local culture. So below are some of the most notable things are observed from travels.

The Silence and Peacefulness

The first thing that surprised about Coorg is how peaceful it felt. Crowded tourist hill stations fall by the wayside while still most of Coorg remains pristine and peaceful.

Early mornings were filled with:

•    Chirping birds and a drizzle

•    Fresh mountain air

•    Mist rolling across the hill tops

Even in more popular areas it was much calmer than most other places. The sort of place that makes you unwind.

Coffee Plantations Everywhere

Coorg was known for coffee but I didn’t expect to encounter the plantations almost everywhere. It felt very scenic as we drove through the winding roads lined with unending coffee estates.

Most of the plantation stays also facilitated us to:

•    Walk through coffee fields

•    Learn about coffee cultivation

•    Taste locally grown coffee

With the fresh coffee aroma and chill climate this made my experience even better!

The Weather Changes Quickly

One other shocking aspect about Coorg was how the weather kept fluctuating every single day.

One moment the sky was light: within minute it was.

•    Mist covered the roads

•    Light rain started falling

•    Hills disappeared behind clouds

This unpredictable weather made the trip even more delightful with every drive feeling so graphic.

More Beautiful by the Road than in the Place

The best parts of Coorg for us were not the touristy places — they were on the road between two destinations.

The roads passing through:

•    Forests

•    Coffee plantations

•    Small villages

•    Misty Mountain curves

The more obscure, the better — anything that involved little crowds, even amongst unfamiliar territory at those attractions. Just riding around the Coorg became an experience in its own right.

Hidden Places Seemed More Beautiful

Abbey Fall, Raja’s Seat may be the famous places to visit but the nature beauty of some hidden locations really amazed me.

The small streams, village viewpoints and plantation paths in the most un-visited places were authentic in their raw natural beauty.

Local Food was Rich and Flavourful

Usually Coorg food was a delightful experience but little did i know it could be so unique and fun! The traditional Kodava food was a whole different type of experience from the regular south Indian one.

Some memorable dishes included:

•    Pandi Curry

•    Akki Roti

•    Bamboo shoot curries

•    Fresh homemade coffee

The food brought another cultural aspect to our whole travel.

Plantation Stays Felt Special

Staying inside a coffee estate was one of the highlights of whole trip.

Waking up to:

•    Fog-covered trees

•    Rain sounds

•    Fresh coffee aroma

•    Bird calls

Was a lot more comfortable than staying in any regular hotel. It was the leisure lifestyle offered in plantation homestays that made this trip, memorable.

Coorg Is So Much More Different In Monsoon

Monsoons will change the entire definition of Coorg for you.

The monsoon brought:

•    Bright green landscapes

•    Powerful waterfalls

•    Cloud-covered hills

•    A peaceful atmosphere

Although we were not always able to do sightseeing because of the rain it was more alive and more beautiful!

Adventure and Relaxation Exist Together

The thing which surprised me the most was how Coorg is a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

You can:

•    Enjoy exciting jeep rides to Mandalpatti View Point

•    Trekking and river rafting

•    Or just chill at a plantation stay for hours

It is a place that works for all types of travelers.

Final Thoughts

It is not only the beauty of coorg that surprised me, but rather how beautiful that place made me feel. The serenity, the landscape, and the changing of weather was soothing and refreshing for my soul as well in comparison to my typical busy city life.

Coorg is not just a hill station. That is a place which is perfect blend of nature, culture and peace. And sometimes, it can be the most basic experiences there are—silent roads, rainy mornings and a steaming cup of coffee on hills.
